Joy Reid’s Controversial Remarks on Nicki Minaj
Former host Joy Reid has made headlines for directing racial slurs at rapper Nicki Minaj, who has expressed support for President Donald Trump.
Minaj has publicly criticized cancel culture and aligned with Trump on issues like the violence against Christians in Nigeria. This stance has invited backlash from well-known liberal figures.
During a segment on “The Don Lemon Show,” Reid shared her thoughts on why Republicans, despite having fewer connections in the entertainment world, seem to embrace Minaj.
“The reason they’re using Nicki Minaj is puzzling. They generally despise her, probably haven’t listened to her music, and would be shocked if they did,” Reid stated.
Trump Calls Minaj a ‘Winner’ and Challenges Hollywood Norms
“They’re keeping her around like a pet for Trump because she provides ‘cultural coolness’ for black people,” Reid continued, suggesting that black cultural influence is significant in America.
Referencing other instances of black public figures befriending Republicans, Reid specifically critiqued Minaj. “Their next target might be Cardi B, who seems indifferent to issues affecting Trinidadian fishermen and rivals within her industry,” she remarked.
Reid added, “Minaj will never achieve the status of Rihanna or Beyoncé. She seems to lack genuine concern for black communities or undocumented immigrants.”
Minaj Critiques California Governor in Interview
“If they deem cultural cool unnecessary, Minaj won’t be of use to them. The issue is, she’s not the cultural icon they want anymore. The Barbs are upset, but it doesn’t change the fact that she’s not fulfilling their needs. They’ll continue seeking a black face for MAGA, knowing the importance of ‘cultural cool,'” Reid explained.
Fox News Digital reached out to both Minaj and the White House but did not receive an immediate response.
