Joy Reid says GOP governors have made immigration worse by sending illegal immigrants ‘all over the country like the old segregationists’

MSNBC host Joy Reid made the bold comparison that Republican governors, aligned with racist politicians, have made the border crisis worse by sending processed and released migrants to other parts of the country.

Reid’s comments came after President Joe Biden released executive orders designed to give the appearance of working to secure the southern border, when in reality the number of waivers his administration has put in place will do little to stem the flow of illegal immigrants.

“One of the things that Republican governors like the governors of Texas and Florida have done is take the problem of illegal aliens — if you can call it a problem — and send it around the country like an old racist thing from the civil rights movement. [era] “They used to put black people on buses and say, ‘Hey, let’s send them into your town and piss you off,'” Reed said Tuesday night.

Reid lacks a comprehensive understanding of how state relocation programs work.

“So then you have a double pressure. People can’t pay rent, they’re having financial difficulties buying things, and then they look at immigrants and say money that should be owed to me is going to them. This has become so effective that Biden’s response is, ‘I’m going to take punitive measures,'” she continued.

Reed lacks a comprehensive understanding of how state relocation programs work. Since states can’t deport illegal immigrants, Texas’ program was created to ease the strain on border cities. People are given transportation to cities of their choice, not forced to get on a bus to a destination they don’t want to go to.

Illegal immigrants are drawn to cities like New York, Chicago, and Denver in large part because they are sanctuary cities that provide new arrivals with free shelter, free food, and financial assistance. But beyond that, hundreds of thousands of processed and released immigrants arrive in the various sanctuary cities, either on their own funds or with the assistance of various charities and nongovernmental organizations.
