Joy Reid Seems to Indicate Iran Wasn't After Nukes — But Then Goes on to Contradict Herself

Joy Reid’s Remarks on Iran and Israel’s Nuclear Programs

Former MSNBC host Joy Reid dropped hints on Tuesday about Iran’s interest in a civilian nuclear program, while simultaneously criticizing Israeli “expansionists” for their stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Early Sunday, the US targeted facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan linked to Iran’s nuclear weapons development, utilizing large-scale munitions and precision-guided technologies. Reid engaged in a heated discussion with CNN’s Brian Todd regarding Iran’s uranium enrichment levels.

“Should we really enter war for that?” Abby Phillip, host of “CNN Newsnight,” posed in response to Todd.

On February 23, MSNBC revealed it would cancel Reid and Alex Wagner’s show as part of a lineup revamp, also discontinuing weekend programming hosted by Katie Phang, Jonathan Capehart, and Ayman Mohyeldin.

“In your opinion, it’s aggravating to dictate what they need,” Reid challenged Todd. “Who are you to say?”

Reid referenced a statement made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu back in 1996, noting he had voiced concerns to various US presidents since then. “He said it when my child was a toddler,” she remarked.

On June 12, Israel executed a military operation aimed at Iran’s nuclear program, targeting facilities and key figures associated with the theocratic regime. Shortly after suggesting that Iran may seek a civilian nuclear program, Reid altered her tone.

“The bottom line is, Iran does not currently have nuclear weapons, and if they did, Israel wouldn’t consider attacking them,” Reid contended. “The reason they pursue nuclear capabilities, and possibly Saudi Arabia too, is due to the continuous threats from expansionist powers in their vicinity, which have resulted in actual bombings.”

Reid also expressed concerns over Israel’s nuclear arsenal, questioning whether anyone in the region should possess such weapons at all.
