Suspect in Georgia Domestic Incident Captured After 10-Hour Manhunt
A lengthy, 10-hour manhunt in Georgia concluded on Tuesday with the capture of a “dangerous” suspect who allegedly shot and killed a child’s mother before fleeing on foot, aided by bloodhounds.
The suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Darian Berry Sr., a man with a history of felony convictions, according to the Butts County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident happened Tuesday morning in Flovilla, a city located roughly 80 miles south of Atlanta.
The sheriff’s office commented on the manhunt, stating, “His decision to flee couldn’t match the resolve of law enforcement and the remarkable tracking skills of Bloodhound, which ultimately led to his arrest.”
Initially, deputies were dispatched to the scene in response to reports involving Berry. It is alleged that he attempted to imprison or restrain the victim, with additional suspicions of arson and stalking raising concerns.
Upon officers’ arrival, Berry fled the scene, reportedly armed with a handgun, resulting in an extensive search operation. Local communities were put on “high alert” as the search for the suspect escalated.
Officials noted that the Bloodhound K-9 unit from the Georgia Department of Corrections played a critical role in locating Berry, who was in custody by Tuesday evening.
Berry now faces a variety of charges, including aggravated assault, stalking, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and numerous counts related to domestic violence and false imprisonment.
