Kansas State quarterback Avery Johnson's father and brother involved in intense altercation following defeat

After Kansas faced off against Iowa in Dublin on Saturday, a skirmish broke out involving the father and brother of Wildcats quarterback Avery Johnson.

Footage captured the moment when Mark Johnson was seen fighting with his eldest son, Anthony, following the Air Lingus College Football Classic at Aviva Stadium, as bystanders attempted to break up the altercation.

An argument between the two families erupted, but it was confirmed that no arrests occurred regarding the incident.

Both parties issued a joint statement on Sunday addressing what happened.

“I apologize for my actions after yesterday’s football game in Ireland. What began as a trivial disagreement escalated into an unnecessary confrontation,” Mark and Anthony stated. “We’ve resolved our differences and take full responsibility. We’ve also reached out to our extended family, and now we wish to extend our apologies to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans.”

They expressed regret and a commitment to ensuring such an incident doesn’t happen again, concluding with, “Please accept our deepest apologies.”

The underlying cause of the conflict outside the stadium remains unclear.

A video of the altercation features a woman exclaiming, “Anthony, this is as embarrassing as it gets.” Another voice is heard saying, “Daddy, stop it.”

On the field, Johnson completed 21 of 30 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns against Iowa State, also rushing for 21 yards and an additional touchdown.

Iowa State ultimately won the game 24-21, marking the start of the 2025 college football season. This season marks Johnson’s third with the Wildcats, and he is set to finish the campaign with over 2,500 passing yards.
