Kathy Griffin Urges Community Action Against ICE
Comedian Kathy Griffin is urging her followers to identify who among them supports or opposes the MAGA movement, in a bid to unite against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
During an episode of her YouTube show, Griffin expressed her grave concerns regarding recent violence associated with ICE. “For those who are aware of the situation, what do you believe is the answer? I think of the recent murder of Renee Good, and it’s disturbing,” she remarked. Griffin described the current conditions as akin to a concentration camp in America, a sentiment that has stirred significant public discourse.
Tensions have grown recently over incidents involving ICE, particularly after Renee Nicole Good was shot by agents earlier this month. Reports indicated he allegedly tried to ram a police officer’s vehicle. Additionally, protests have escalated following the killing of Alex Preti by Border Patrol on January 24.
Griffin, however, emphasizes the need for community organization amid these tensions. She reflected on her experiences in Los Angeles, where she noted that certain areas are more affected. “It’s time to engage with your neighbors,” she stated, indicating the importance of knowing who stands with them against ICE.
She further stressed the need to identify allies within the community, suggesting that understanding “who’s on our team” is critical.
Griffin also shared insights about how some individuals in Minnesota are actively helping each other by forming small groups and utilizing encrypted messaging apps to coordinate their efforts against ICE. “They’re organized and it’s really encouraging to hear,” she noted.
Recent statistics from ICE reported a staggering increase in assaults, including a 1,300% rise in attacks on officers, alongside a 3,200% increase in vehicle assaults and an 8,000% rise in death threats. Griffin attributes some of this activism to lessons learned from past events, particularly the George Floyd incident, which happened nearby. “They claim they learned a lot from that experience, and it’s essential to stay aware,” she added.
“If you’re quiet, it’s akin to being an ally to the problem,” Griffin said, reinforcing her belief that silence in these matters enables wrongdoing. “I realize that might come off as harsh, but that’s my perspective.”
ICE has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding these new developments.
