Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan to run in Preakness, keeping Triple Crown alive

Mystic Dan, winner of the 150th competition kentucky derby, The 3-year-old colt will keep his chance to see another Triple Crown alive after trainer Kenny McPeek confirmed on Saturday that he will run in next weekend’s Preakness Stakes.

McPeak Racing made the announcement one week after the 149th running of the second leg. triple crown, The race will be held on May 18th at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore.

“Mystic Dan appears to be healthy and ready to run in the Preakness. We have discussed the decision with owners Lance Gasaway, Daniel Hamby, Brent Gassaway and Scott Hamby, and he is scheduled to run on May 18th. ” said trainer McPeak. In a statement.

“The stallion had a good week and will travel to Baltimore on Sunday.”

McPeak also confirmed that jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. will ride Mystic Dan in the race.

“Without Brian’s work he would not have won the Derby and I am delighted that Brian is finally getting the recognition he deserves.”

Mystic Dan literally won the Kentucky Derby in a photo finish. This was the 10th running of the Kentucky Derby, one of the closest races in horse racing, and the first since 1996.

McPeak’s last Preakness win was in 2020 out of the filly Swiss Skydiver.
