Kevin McCarthy Claims ‘Weak’ Schumer and Jeffries Have Allowed the ‘Socialist Wing’ to Take Control

McCarthy Critiques Democratic Leaders

On Tuesday, former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took aim at House Minority Leader Hakem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.

In the recent June 24 primary, Mamdani secured the Democratic nomination for Mayor of New York City, surpassing other candidates, including the former Democratic governor. When asked about his views on Jeffries and Schumer during an appearance on “American Newsroom,” McCarthy remarked that the pair offered only “excuses.”

“I think Democrats are slow to grasp how people are getting information these days,” Buttigieg noted in an NPR interview. “They’re also not quite picking up on cultural shifts, and they seem overly attached to an outdated situation that’s been problematic for a while.”

McCarthy expressed his disappointment, saying, “Each week brings a new excuse. Their policies are misguided, and the lack of leadership is evident. What’s troubling is how they seem to be leaning more towards socialism while vying for authority.” He mentioned that if they were strategic, they would have targeted voters like Ross Perot supporters in the ’90s, similar to today’s Trump supporters.

He continued, “Their weak leadership allows others to step in and fill the gap. We now have a socialist candidate for mayor in New York.”

In a June 29 interview with “Meet the Press,” Mamdani repeatedly avoided condemning the phrase “globalization of intifadas” while referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He has expressed intentions to arrest Netanyahu should he visit New York City as part of his support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Additionally, Mamdani is advocating for higher taxes in predominantly white New York districts during his campaign against Independent Democratic Mayor Eric Adams. His platform includes several left-wing policy initiatives, such as creating government-run grocery stores.
