President Trump Increases Pressure on Iran Amid Tensions
Reports from West Palm Beach, Florida, indicate rising tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with President Trump intensifying his stance. A discussion featuring Andrew Boreen from the National Security Institute on “Fox News Live” is expected to delve into the escalating military pressures in the Middle East.
According to opposition groups abroad, the Iranian government showcased a staged image of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as part of a strategy to display strength and lift the morale of its ailing military. Khamenei was featured in photographs praying at the tomb of the Islamic Republic’s founder, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini—a public appearance after several weeks of absence. During this time, regime officials made new threats directed at both the U.S. and Europe.
Ali Safavi, a senior figure in the Iranian National Council of Resistance, characterized these images as mere propaganda intended to boost the morale of Iran’s demoralized security forces rather than genuinely reassure the public. “He wanted to show he wasn’t afraid to die, but remarkably, it seems he’s striving to uplift the spirits of those who support the regime,” he said.
Safavi emphasized that the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) remains crucial to the regime’s power but is visibly strained from handling nationwide protests. He noted, “These images are meant to convey strength while solidifying oppressive forces, but internally, the regime grapples with an unyielding reality: criminal organizations can’t suppress the people’s will. Khamenei realizes the pre-December 28 situation will likely not return.”
The timing of Khamenei’s appearance coincided with calls from the European Parliament to classify the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization. Reports also mentioned protests outside the residence of Iran’s UN ambassador, demanding regime change.
Further, Safavi highlighted that the Revolutionary Guards, as the regime’s backbone, particularly evoke military strength. “A military collapse likely hinges on a fundamental shift in the balance of power combined with organized resistance on the ground. Only then do defections within the military gain significance,” he remarked.
Following the European Parliament’s resolution, the Iranian government expressed significant outrage, with lawmakers showcasing solidarity by donning Revolutionary Guards uniforms. A banner declaring the Revolutionary Guards as the “world’s largest anti-terrorist organization” was prominently displayed during these demonstrations.
In related news, the U.S. military has cautioned Iran against any “dangerous” actions as live-fire training exercises are set to take place in the Strait of Hormuz. Khamenei warned that any military action against Iran would lead to a broader conflict in the region, declaring, “We are not the ones who start wars. However, any attacks or harm to Iran will not go unanswered.” He added that a U.S. instigated war would likely spread across the region.
President Trump also mentioned that if Iran does not reach a satisfactory agreement regarding its nuclear program, “we will find out” if Khamenei’s warnings hold true. “Doing business with Iran involves engaging with the Revolutionary Guards, a regime that even includes clergymen,” said Safavi.
