King Charles and Queen Camilla’s State Visit to the U.S.
King Charles and Queen Camilla have landed in Washington, D.C., kicking off their first official state visit to the United States. They have a packed schedule for the next four days.
After touching down, the royal couple is expected to enjoy a private tea with President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, as part of the celebrations leading up to the country’s 250th anniversary.
Following this meeting, they’ll attend a ceremony at the White House, which will be succeeded by a formal state dinner hosted by the president and first lady.
Prince Charles, at 77, will also deliver a speech to Parliament during this visit—a significant moment as he is the second British monarch to do so, following Queen Elizabeth’s notable address in 1991.
This trip marks the couple’s first visit to the U.S. since Charles became king in September 2022, a few months after his mother passed away.
In a conversation with Fox News, President Trump expressed his eagerness for the visit, saying, “King Charles is coming. He’s a great guy and we’re looking forward to it.” He continued to describe Charles as a long-time friend and a perfect representative of his country.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson has confirmed that their four-day visit will carry on as scheduled despite a recent unsettling event—a shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The spokesperson stated that both sides proactively consulted and made adjustments based on government guidance.
After wrapping up their time in Washington, Charles and Camilla will head to New York City to engage in various events.
While in New York, Charles will commemorate the 2,977 victims of the September 11 attacks by meeting with first responders and families of those affected, ahead of the upcoming 25th anniversary of the tragic event.
Additionally, Charles plans to visit an organization dedicated to mentoring youth through urban agriculture projects. Camilla, meanwhile, will reportedly take part in festivities for Winnie the Pooh’s 100th birthday and celebrate literature.
The couple will end their whirlwind visit in Virginia, participating in a regional block party in honor of America’s anniversary. However, they will likely separate at some point; Prince Charles may visit a national park while Camilla attends an event centered around horse racing.
Notably, plans for a meeting between Charles and his estranged son, Prince Harry, are absent from the itinerary. A source mentioned that during state visits, every moment is critical, making it unlikely for Charles to meet Harry amidst his official engagements.
