Secretary Noem Critiques Democratic Border Policies in Arizona

During a visit to Nogales, Arizona on Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem criticized Democratic policies regarding immigration, accusing them of misrepresenting “compassion” and leaving American communities to grapple with crime and disorder.

In front of the southern border wall, Noem addressed the Biden administration’s immigration strategies and their repercussions for national security. She remarked, “Democrats are suggesting that sympathy equals a humanitarian crisis. But President Trump emphasized that compassion involves genuinely caring for people. Is it really compassion if it forces Americans to coexist with criminals? Is it compassionate to push individuals and families to break the law, risking their lives in the process?”

Noem’s statements followed unrest related to the recent shootings of Minneapolis residents, which sparked protests against federal authorities. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have accused the administration of violating constitutional rights by targeting marginalized communities and have requested the departure of ICE from Democratic-leaning states.

She also mentioned recent assaults on federal immigration officers and challenged the Democrats’ definition of compassion. “Is it compassion to vilify federal officers who are sworn to protect the law and ensure public safety?” she questioned. “Democrats provoke, intimidate, and sometimes attack our federal workers, then label the enforcement of immigration laws and deportations as inhumane. What about the victims of illegal activity?”

Noem also pointed out that voters elected Trump for a second term with the intention of restoring law and order. She stated, “Our republic’s strength lies in its people’s ability to choose. Choosing Trump reflected a desire for a nation that recognizes the importance of borders and law enforcement. The disorder seen during the Biden presidency is unprecedented, and the public has rejected it.”

She added, “They opted for a return to order. We have the potential for a bright future, ensuring freedom and opportunities for generations to come.”
