L.A. Deputy Hands Out Starbucks Coffee Featuring 'Highly Offensive' Pig Illustration on Cup

Recently, a deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department received a cup of coffee adorned with an “offensive” image, a development that comes amid an ongoing pattern of hostility toward law enforcement from some groups.

The incident, reported by KTLA, involved a Starbucks employee in Norwalk presenting the deputy with a cup featuring a hand-painted pig, which is often seen as a derogatory symbol for police.

sheriff station dealt with The sheriff’s office issued a statement expressing their “deep concern” regarding what took place.

According to authorities, the deputy had simply stopped for a coffee when he was “intentionally presented with a cup illustrating a pig picture, which carries negative connotations toward law enforcement.” The sheriff’s office deemed this behavior “highly offensive, inappropriate, and unacceptable.”

The deputy reported the matter to the store manager, who promised to investigate the issue.

Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna reached out to Starbucks’ corporate security to address his concerns and also reminded his deputies that “disrespectful behavior toward employees will not be tolerated.”

“Our deputies work diligently within the community, often in tough situations. They are integral members of this community and deserve respect and basic human dignity. Actions that create hostility toward law enforcement erode community trust and compromise public safety,” the office concluded.

Users on social media expressed their views on the incident. One comment recalled ride-alongs with LASD deputies, noting, “They always brought their own lunches because of safety concerns. This was back in the ’80s, and honestly, being in law enforcement seems like a thankless job.”

In recent years, certain segments of society have displayed open disdain for police, as noted by Breitbart News.

For instance, in 2015, Black Lives Matter activists attempted to disrupt the Minnesota State Fair with chants like, “Wrap the pig in a blanket and fry it like bacon!”

The phrase “pigs in a blanket” is infamously used by activists to refer to police in a derogatory manner, as noted during past violent incidents where officers were killed.

Years later, in 2019, Starbucks issued an apology after deputies in Riverside County claimed they had been turned away from the café.

At that time, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco asserted, “Two of our deputies were denied service at Starbucks. The anti-police sentiment demonstrated by some Starbucks employees has to cease.”

In a further incident in 2020, a Dunkin’ Donuts employee in Chicago faced arrest after a trooper discovered that a glob of mucus, later confirmed to be saliva, had been found in his coffee.

Regarding the latest incident in Norwalk, a Starbucks representative stated, “What happened here is unacceptable. We’ve reached out multiple times and apologized to the Sheriff’s Office while expressing our gratitude for law enforcement’s efforts in keeping the community safe. We are currently investigating and will take prompt action.”
