Leavitt asserts that Democrats were aware of Swalwell's supposed sexual misconduct.

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt attributed the growing sexual assault allegations against former Congressman Eric Swalwell to the Democrats, questioning their prior knowledge of the situation and why they remained silent for so long.

“The accusations against Swalwell are truly despicable and disgusting,” Leavitt remarked.

She went on to suggest that it’s possible other Democrats were aware of Swalwell’s potentially illegal and inappropriate behavior. Swalwell had announced his resignation from the House after four women came forth with allegations against him. This surge of accusations effectively ended his political ambitions, especially following his earlier decision to step back from the 2026 California gubernatorial race.

Leavitt urged reporters to ask Congress members why there was no outcry sooner, particularly from Senator Ruben Gallego of Arizona. She emphasized, “Inquire why they knew about these abhorrent actions and didn’t address them sooner.”

On the same day, Gallego remarked that Swalwell had, in his view, been living a double life.

In response to the allegations, Gallego asserted, “I had no prior knowledge of any claims against Swalwell regarding assault or predatory behavior,” following Swalwell’s withdrawal from the gubernatorial race.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also denied any awareness of Swalwell’s alleged misconduct, simply saying “nothing” in response to inquiries. She stated that Swalwell’s announcement to resign was a “wise decision” given the unfolding allegations that threatened his position.
