Leavitt: Southern Poverty Law Center is a 'Criminal Organization, Managed by Con Artists'

White House Press Secretary Criticizes Southern Poverty Law Center

During a segment on Fox News Channel’s “America Report,” White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt labeled the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) as a “criminal organization run by fraudsters.”

Host John Roberts raised concerns about the Department of Justice’s scrutiny of the SPLC, referencing its history as a respected civil rights organization that once fought against the KKK. He pointed out that significant criticism toward President Trump stemmed from allegations that the SPLC paid individuals to attend the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville. Roberts asked for Leavitt’s thoughts on the Justice Department’s actions regarding this matter.

Leavitt replied, “You’re right, the SPLC had a respectable reputation, but it has unfortunately become a criminal organization led by fraudsters who, instead of combating racism, seem to be supporting it. You mentioned the Charlottesville incident, which is indeed crucial. This is one of the most damaging and outrageous accusations that has been made against the territory. The media has embraced this group too easily, and it’s worth noting that it received funding from Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign, which is completely misleading. When you read a New York Times article discussing this indictment, they portray it as a misuse of justice, but that’s far from the truth. This indictment comes from a grand jury of Americans who recognized the criminal activities associated with this group, and they need to be held accountable.”
