New York Attorney General Letitia James said in an interview with ABC News on Tuesday that if former President Donald Trump can’t find the cash to pay a $354 million fine in a civil fraud case, his assets will be destroyed. He said he was prepared to seize the property.
james Said ABC News reported, “If he does not have the funds to repay the judgment, we will ask the court for a mechanism to enforce the judgment and ask the judge to seize his assets.”
President Trump was fined $354.8 million on Friday after Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron ruled that the former president had inflated his net worth to obtain more favorable loan terms. and prejudgment interest of approximately $100 million.
President Trump said he would appeal the ruling. Still, he must pay a fine as bail to New York State before he can appeal.
When asked about President Trump’s defense that the banks had repaid all loans and there were no victims in the case, James said, “Financial fraud is not a victimless crime,” but that there were no victims. He did not name the individuals involved, instead saying the fraud was “massive.”
“He engaged in this huge fraud. It wasn’t just a mistake or a slight oversight, the variations were greatly exaggerated and the scope of the fraud was astonishing,” she claimed. She also posed a hypothetical situation: “If the average New Yorker went to a bank and submitted false documents, the government would throw the book at them, and the same should be true for a former president.”
James said she is keeping an eye on President Trump’s building at 40 Wall Street, known as the “Trump Building.”
“We are preparing to make sure New Yorkers get their verdict. Yes, I look at 40 Wall Streets every day,” she said.

She dismissed President Trump’s claims that businesses would flee New York over the incident, saying, “Last I checked, tourism was doing well. Wall Street was doing well.”
She also gushed about columnist E. Jean Carroll, who is struggling with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ case against Trump, saying, “If someone wants me to do something, I want women to do it.” I told him to do it,” he said.
