The Nassau County Army veteran learned the hobby he learned online during his deployment, lit up Long Island and became dollars and scented at a new candle shop offering couples Valentine's Day activities.
“I want to lead by example,” Alex Moffat, owner of Baldwin's Candle de Wright, told the post. “For people to believe in you, you need to actually do the job, show that you can do it and tell the next person, 'I can do it too.' ”
Moffat attacked the match in his candlemaking career in 2021, when he and his wife were looking for something to do before he and his wife had to ship to Saudi Arabia, I decided to take an old art class.
“My wife and I had to drive out to New Jersey… when we got there, that wasn't my expectations, to say the least,” he recalled. “I knew I could do a better job.”
Overseas the following year, Moffat devoted almost all of his free time to learning the inside and outside of candlemaking through what he calls “YouTube University.”
He learned a lot about it. When he got home he learned that in 2023 he was able to realize his dream and open his shop.
Operated in the afternoon and late at night, the scented storefront is decorated with lines of chandeliers and designer candles on Merrick Road in South Shoretown.
Among the store's offerings are Byob candle making classes for couples Private events for groups.
Sergeant's goal is to give Long Islanders more to do, especially during the cold season.

Candle de Lite's local excellence has been a bit of the morning radio show for “Breakfast Club” after Moffat's cold call hosts Charlemagne the God, DJ Envy and Jess Helilius in late 2023. I got so excited with the help.
“One day, on my way to Verizon, I got the idea of calling out from nowhere. They actually went through me,” recalls Moffatt. “I told you I own a candle shop in Charlmange and I want to bring you all the candles… he said, 'Yeah, please lift it up' . ”
That night, Moffat hit his shop and made as many candles as possible for the trio.
“The next morning I woke up at 4am and sat in the car park at the station, waiting for them to enter. I told you to bring more. ”
Since spreading the word, Moffatt has seen reliable growth and sparks of several repeat customers. He said that because patrons often make candles, they don't want to burn them and ultimately buy a second candle.
Candle de Lite offers Valentine's Day special classes, including complimentary wine, for $60 per person.
“I love being affordable,” Moffatt said. “When you come in, I want people to be warm and relaxed and know that they are safe and have a great time.”
