Liberal candidate wins Wisconsin Supreme Court race in blow to Trump, Musk

Susan Crawford is expected to win a seat open in the Wisconsin Supreme Court competition, keeping the 4-3 liberal majority of the High Court unharmed, causing a blow to Elon Musk and President Trump, according to Decist Desk Desk HQ.

Crawford, a judge for Dane County Circuit Court, defeated conservative candidate Brad Simmell and former GOP State Attorney General Brad Simmell in his seat. Crawford will replace the retired liberal Anne Walsh Bradley in court.

The election has given the parties the first big test since the November election, and comes after record-breaking sums have been poured into the race. In particular, the race was considered a test of the political shaking of masks, as only his super PAC, the American PAC, spent more than $12 million to support Shimmel. He also traveled to Wisconsin on Sunday before the election, where he handed out a million-dollar check to voters who signed the petition against the “activist judge.”

Trump also walked to the race and repeatedly urged voters to go to vote and support Shimmel.

The race will also be a severe disappointment for Wisconsin Republicans. He lost the opportunity to maintain a conservative majority after Judge Janet Protasiewitz defeated conservative candidate Dan Kelly in 2023.

This year's race, which crushed the fundraising record for the 2023 race, was not only because it decided the partisan leaning of the court, but because it took less than three months to Trump's second term as president, becoming the first critical citizen of president.

The Democrats and Crawford Campaign tried to capitalize on the rage around masks and federal cuts that took place under his government efficiency (DOGE). The race also comes shortly after the breakdown of a scandal involving a top Trump administration official debating the attack plan on the Signals app, unaware that journalists were inadvertently involved.

The results also provide local results.

In recent years, Wisconsin's High Court has governed famous issues such as the 2020 election results, state legislative maps, and the use of voting dropboxes. Among the cases under close surveillance, the state Supreme Court will consider a lawsuit over the state's abortion law of 1849, which prohibits almost all abortions in the state, and another case over Section 10, which suppresses the right to collective bargaining for civil servants.

The race is the latest example of the Democratic Party's special election streak since the November election. Earlier this year, the party recorded shocking confusion in state Senate special elections in Iowa and Pennsylvania.
