Democratic Governor Faces Criticism

Governor Jared Polis of Colorado is under fire after images from a party conference call surfaced on X.

Recently, Polis granted a pardon to former Republican Mesa County Elections Clerk Tina Peters, reducing her original nine-year prison term linked to a voting machine security breach in 2021. This decision drew criticism from the Colorado Democratic Party, which condemned his actions on May 20. In a post on X, it appeared that Polis responded by showing up with duct tape over his mouth during the conference call, as reported on Wednesday.

“Governor Jared Polis, just criticized by the Colorado Democratic Party for his early release of Tina Peters, attended a private meeting today,” the post noted, accompanied by a screenshot of Polis with duct tape and headphones.

In one response to the post, a user insinuated silence on Polis’s part, to which the governor replied, “I will make your wish come true.”

Polis has faced censure from the Colorado Democratic Party and is currently barred from participating as a guest or representative for the party “until further action is taken.”

Following the reduction of her sentence, Peters will be eligible for parole on June 1.

Peters’ release has garnered support from some allies of former President Donald Trump. Colorado Congresswoman Lauren Boebert commented that the outcome was a result of continued pressure from Trump, stating, “He always knew that Tina deserved fair treatment under the law.”

Peters had been convicted on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit identity theft and official misconduct.

Polis remarked, “I think this is an important message for us to send in support of free speech in our country,” referring to Peters’ demotion.
