Lori Chavez Delemer Resigns from Labor Department

Lori Chavez Delemer, a member of President Trump’s Cabinet, has resigned after a challenging 13-month tenure as Labor Secretary.

On Monday, the White House acknowledged her contributions, noting she is stepping away from the administration to pursue opportunities in the private sector.

“My time in the administration is coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop fighting for American workers,” she shared in a statement.

White House communications director Stephen Chan remarked on social media that her departure was to take up a role in the private industry. He praised her for her accomplishments in advocating for American workers, implementing fair labor practices, and supporting initiatives for skill development.

Deputy Commissioner Keith Sonderling is set to take over as the acting head.

Chavez Delemer, known for her pro-union stance, relied on support from three Democrats during her confirmation in the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

Her husband has faced allegations of harassment, reportedly leading to a ban from the Labor Department. A criminal investigation into these claims has now concluded.

Earlier this year, two of her top aides were let go due to similar misconduct claims involving inappropriate behavior while on duty.

In her resignation announcement, she expressed gratitude for her time in the administration and stated, “It was an honor and privilege to serve in this historic administration and to work for the greatest president of my lifetime.”

Additionally, she highlighted the progress made during her tenure to foster collaboration between workers and businesses in line with President Trump’s agenda to prioritize American labor.

Chavez Delemer concluded by emphasizing her commitment to the workforce as she transitions to the private sector.

Recently, two other individuals have also departed from the Trump administration, including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
