Los Angeles resident tracks down man from viral video who allegedly tossed dog down 3 flights of stairs and forces his arrest

A horrific video of animal cruelty has gone viral, leading one California resident to demand action from the Los Angeles Police Department. according to To KTTV-TV.

The video shows a man grabbing the screaming puppy and throwing it down three flights of stairs at an apartment on Oakwood Avenue in Koreatown, before the dog can be seen running back a moment later.

“If we all get together and make a lot of noise, at least they’ll start responding!”

Neighbors living in the apartment complex were frightened of the man, who they say has repeatedly thrown their dog down the stairs. The video, captured on a Ring doorbell camera, was posted to social media and quickly went viral.

Dion Michael saw the video on the Chris Kelly Foundation’s website, which fights against animal cruelty, and decided to take action.

Michael went to the building and told residents and apartment managers about the video, and they told her that police had come to his house, knocked, and left when he didn’t answer, she said.

Once she found a man matching the suspect’s description, she went live on Chris Kelly’s page and urged others to demand that the LAPD arrest the man.

Police said in a statement that they found the man in an alleyway near the apartment, and social media posts showed him being arrested and his dog being removed from the apartment.

The Los Angeles Police Department said the dog, identified as a 7-month-old puppy, was in need of treatment for malnutrition and a broken leg. The dog was taken to a dog shelter and may need surgery for its broken leg.

The man, identified as Joeboree Coleman, 27, was arrested on a felony charge of animal cruelty and was given zero bail, according to LAPD Capt. Lillian Carranza.

“One person shouting won’t do anything,” Michael said. “If we all get together and shout loudly, at least someone will respond!”

She said people online have become an “army for animals” to prevent animal cruelty.

KTTV reported that Coleman did not answer a knock on the door or respond to a request for comment.
