Tragedy Strikes: Lucas Trejo’s Family Found Dead in Venezuela Earthquakes
Argentine soccer player Lucas Trejo is facing unimaginable sorrow after losing his wife and children during the recent devastating double earthquake in Venezuela.
The country was rocked by earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude on Wednesday, resulting in at least 1,430 confirmed fatalities.
According to family friend Edson Tortorello, who is also a soccer player, Trejo’s wife, Yanina Maranella, as well as their children, Aaron and Ainoa, were among those who perished in the catastrophe.
Tortorello shared his heartfelt sentiments on Instagram, offering condolences and support during this tragic time.
“We appreciate all your support and extend our deepest condolences to his family. We pray for their eternal rest,” he wrote.
Sport Marítimo de la Guaira, the club Trejo plays for, confirmed the heartbreaking news in an official statement. They revealed that a thorough search lasted 74 hours before Trejo’s family was found.
“Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira is deeply saddened by the loss of Lucas Trejo’s family. We ask all to offer their respects to his relatives and teammates,” the statement read. “After a 74-hour search, they were discovered dead.”
Trejo, 38, joined Marítimo earlier this year and has dedicated much of his career to soccer in Venezuela.
Media reports from Argentina indicate that Trejo’s father and brother traveled to Venezuela to assist in searching for Yanina, Aaron, and Ainoa. He also shared a loving birthday tribute to Yanina on Instagram back in April, saying, “Happy Birthday, my love!!! May God continue to bless your life and fulfill the desires of your heart.”
Amidst this tragedy, the club is also mourning the loss of other young talents, including 14-year-old Victor Palacios, and staff member Adriana Arangren.
As search efforts persist, around 68,900 individuals remain unaccounted for due to the earthquakes, and the weight of this disaster continues to unfold.
