A recent court filing reveals that a dispute involving some choice words related to ICE led to the arrest of WWE wrestler Ludwig Kaiser, whose real name is Marcel Barthel. This incident occurred earlier this year, on April 23, in an elevator at an Orlando apartment complex, as Kaiser claims.
According to the documents, things heated up when a man named Richard Leap took offense to Kaiser and his girlfriend’s public display of affection. Leap allegedly confronted them, insisting they should “be respectful.” He reportedly made inappropriate comments about Kaiser’s girlfriend, who is of Mexican descent, and at one point said, “Please be respectful before you call ICE about that woman.”
Kaiser stated that he stepped out of the elevator to address Leap’s comments, which he deemed offensive. He contended that he felt threatened when Leap approached him with raised hands, leading him to push Leap away in self-defense.
The wrestler recounted returning to the elevator, only for Leap to once again approach him in a “threatening manner.” Kaiser then admitted to nudging Leap once more during this second encounter. He claimed Leap threw a soft drink bottle at him, but he chose not to escalate the situation, simply pressing the button to his floor and exiting.
In his motion to dismiss the case, Kaiser argued that his actions were justified, stating that he reasonably believed he needed to use “non-lethal force” to shield himself and his girlfriend from imminent harm.
A ruling on this motion was expected at a court hearing scheduled for Thursday, but it has since been pushed back to August 27.
An arrest warrant affidavit filed in May in Orange County, Florida, reveals that Leap told police that Kaiser had assaulted him after merely asking the couple to “have some manners” during their affectionate moment in the elevator. Leap claimed Kaiser punched him “multiple times” and pushed him to the ground. Police noted that Leap had a visible wound on the back of his head, which appeared consistent with a recent altercation.
