Maher feels ‘vindicated’ after Katie Porter’s defeat in California Senate race: ‘We don’t like each other’

“Real Time” host Bill Maher took a victory lap at the expense of California Democratic Rep. Katie Porter, saying he was “absolutely right” after her loss in last week’s California Senate race. ” he said.

Porter was shut out of California’s jungle primary on Super Tuesday, and his Democratic colleagues, Rep. Adam Schiff and Republican candidate Steve Garvey, a former Los Angeles Dodgers player, advanced to the general election. Mr Porter, who won just 15% of the vote, claimed the race was “rigged” by an “onslaught of billionaires” who spent millions of dollars on ads attacking him.

On Friday’s HBO show’s “Overtime” segment, Ma highlighted viewer questions about Porter’s claims, noting that he had appeared as a guest on Porter’s show, although he was “unsuccessful.” did.

“We don’t like each other,” Maher told the panel, drawing laughter from the audience. “No, it’s true. I mean, she would say the same thing. But you can’t get along.” [with everybody]. ”

He went on to mock Porter’s claim that her race is “rigged” by bringing up former President Trump’s impersonation.

“So I always say to the Trump people, you think he’s so macho, you think he’s a great tough guy, but the basic tough things that tough guys do, be able to say you lost without pouting. And don’t be a whining little brat,” Maher said.

Maher’s comments come after several frosty exchanges between the two on the show.

Back in 2019, Maher moderated a panel discussion on abortion, which he admitted was “difficult” on the issue, and after his sister’s difficult birth, doctors asked the mother to consider having another child. She revealed that she had told her not to give birth.

“Look, your mom made a choice for herself, and we’re all here bearing the consequences of that choice,” Porter said, mocking Maher, while the audience laughed hysterically. Maher looked pissed.

Maher jokingly told the audience, “Hmm, you.”

“I’m asking difficult questions,” Maher said.

“I just want to say, God bless Mrs. Maher. God bless her for giving birth to you. I know it hasn’t been easy,” Porter continued. I repeated the words of others. “I’m a mother of three children, it’s not easy, but what matters is her and your father, and she made her choice.”

“Again, I’m claiming what I’m pretending to claim!” Mr. Maher shouted before slamming the panel and audience for laughing.

Fast forward to 2023, and Maher and panellist Piers Morgan are slamming young people in the age of social media, and while discussing 21-year-old Jack Teixeira, Porter says they look “somewhat old. He said it sounded like he was in a bad mood. The National Guard Airman was accused of leaking classified information to impress other young adults and teens.

Mr. Maher pushed back, “Bull–”

“Kids are immature, that’s why they’re kids,” Porter said.

“Not at 21. Not in the world,” Maher replied.

“Yes! 21 years old is immature!” shouted Porter. “That’s why we don’t let them drink until they’re 21. That’s why some people think 20-year-olds and 19-year-olds shouldn’t be able to get an AR-15.”

“They can go to war. They can join the military,” Maher said. “They can vote, and I thought that voting would give them some maturity. They’re deciding whether they should be in Congress or not.”

“Well, by the way, I’ll get those votes,” Porter touted. “I won that vote and I’m proud of that.”

“But you just said you would get the votes of the unskilled people,” Maher retorted.

“Immaturity is — well, first of all, immaturity is not necessarily due to age,” Porter argued.

“You just cut your age card,” Maher called out to her. “You were like, our arguments suck because we’re older, and yeah, it’s gotten so boring.”

“Shouldn’t we be criticizing each other for the content of our ideas rather than identity politics?” Maher asked.

“But Bill, your complaint was that they were young,” Porter insisted.

“My complaint is that our young people are immature compared to other countries and other times in history,” Maher countered. “We raise very immature people because we pamper them, we give them rights, and they don’t have to learn anything in school.”
