Recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services informed the public that the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Principal Association, and high schools in Maine are not upholding the established guidelines for transgender athletes in women’s sports.
In February, a biological male identifying as a transgender woman from Greeley High School in Maine secured the state championship in pole vault within the Girls’ Division.
Trump signed the executive order “Keep Men Away from Women’s Sports” in early February. This measure aims to protect female athletes from male competitors who might detract from opportunities available to girls and women.
Despite claiming to support women’s rights, many Democratic officials expressed their displeasure and frustration following the executive orders’ announcement.
“The radical left has initiated a full-scale effort to eliminate the concept of biological sex and replace it with radical transgender ideology,” Trump remarked at the time.
President Trump’s executive order is in response to United Nations Studies indicating that transgender athletes have won nearly 900 more medals compared to their female counterparts. This discrepancy is attributed to the physical advantages that male athletes hold over female athletes.
“Male athletes possess certain attributes that provide advantages in various sports, such as greater strength and higher testosterone levels, even prior to puberty, leading to a loss of fair competition,” the study states. “To ensure fairness, men should not participate in women’s sports.”
Nevertheless, Maine Democrats have pledged to oppose President Trump’s executive order, accusing his administration of “withholding funds necessary for feeding disabled adults in educational and childcare environments.”
“Under the pretext of ensuring children’s safety, the Trump administration illegally withholds grants vital for their sustenance,” Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey stated. “This serves as yet another example of apparent lawlessness as officials ignore legalities.”
“The president and his cabinet officials have enacted no laws and are not exceeding their legal authority. This lawsuit is essential to remind the president that Maine will not be intimidated into breaking the law,” he added.
In the meantime, USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins cautioned that for Maine to “be eligible for taxpayer funding from the USDA,” it must ensure that “female student-athletes do not compete or undress in front of male athletes.”
“Moreover, the USDA has initiated a comprehensive review of grants awarded to the Maine Department of Education during the Biden administration, many of which do not align with the priorities of the Trump administration and instead promote redundant or bloated bureaucracy, focusing more on farmer-first and for-profit agendas.
The Department of Education has given Maine until April 11th to address its violations of the Department of Justice.
