Former relationships of Graham Platner, a Democratic Senate candidate from Maine, are currently under scrutiny. Ex-girlfriends have come forward with serious allegations, including claims of rape fantasies, excessive drinking, and threatening behavior. One notable incident was Platner’s controversial chest tattoo, the “Totenkopf,” which has links to Nazi imagery. This has raised eyebrows amidst claims that he exhibited disturbing behavior during his past relationships.
One ex-girlfriend, Lindsay Fifield, shared that they met while he was at George Washington University in 2013. She mentioned that Platner joked about his tattoo, which is associated with notorious Nazi figures. Interestingly, it was revealed that he and his friends chose the tattoo due to its resemblance to symbols used by the SS, suggesting he was aware of its implications, contrary to earlier claims he made about not knowing.
Fifield recounted moments where Platner would allude to violent fantasies, expressing thoughts about how he would react to intruders. “He used to say this: If someone breaks in here, I’m going to rape them,” she recounted, clarifying that he meant to establish dominance rather than any sexual motivation. There was also an incident where Platner allegedly pulled her from a taxi during an argument, which she found concerning.
Platner has acknowledged his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder from his military background. He stated he has been candid about those struggles during his campaign, admitting to past issues with alcohol and relationships. “I wish I could have done better,” he told Fox News Digital, emphasizing that he took responsibility for his actions.
In a separate incident, Fifield described being forced into a bedroom during a disagreement, which ended when she fell asleep and was later able to leave. She also stated that along with an ax used for bushwhacking during his outdoor work, he owned an AR-15, a firearm currently banned in D.C. but facing legal challenges.
Platner’s campaign has pushed back against these allegations, pointing out that Fifield’s political background might skew her portrayal. Yet, Fifield asserted she has no connection with prominent Republicans to suggest bias.
Another ex-girlfriend, Jenny Racicot, previously had a tumultuous relationship with Platner, describing his online posts as reflecting a problematic view of women, which aligned with her own experiences. An anonymous Democratic lawmaker who dated him remarked on the harmful effects of his drinking, likening her involvement to being collateral damage in his chaotic life.
The Republican National Committee noted that these revelations are part of a larger series of scandals affecting Democratic contenders. As concerns continue to mount regarding Platner’s behavior, his campaign faces increased scrutiny, with claims that his past actions could represent a serious risk if he were to attain political power.
As new developments arise, delays in addressing these issues may have repercussions for Platner and the Democratic Party in Maine as the election approaches.
