Albany’s self-identified socialists and progressives are clearly not short on funds.

A recent financial disclosure for 2024 reveals that state Sen. Liz Kruger, known for her support of “rich-worthy rent management” aimed at helping the middle class, boasts an impressive $24 million in investments.

It seems unlikely that this wealth comes solely from her salary of $142,000 as a senator, a position she has held since 2002. Interestingly, Kruger’s father was the CEO of an investment bank that merged with Lehman Brothers, where he then served as vice-president.

Additionally, the financial status of certain Ridgewood residents—who previously remarked that after President Trump’s election, New Yorkers should leave their “lands of freedom” for Canada—is noteworthy. State lawmakers aren’t required to disclose funds in trusts established by family members, which could mean even more wealth is hidden.

At 67, Kruger lives on Manhattan’s Upper East Side with her retired professor husband. Her investment portfolio, which includes shares in Apple, amounts to nearly $8 million.

Another progressive member, Lt. Col. Antonio Delgado, has close to $1.1 million in his bank account. His wife, Lacey Schwartz Delgado, is an Emmy-nominated filmmaker and sits on various film boards.

Delgado, sometimes referred to as “No Show Delgado,” is vying for Governor Hochul’s position, although he has missed numerous days of work while earning $220,000 a year.

Then there’s Sen. Jabari Brisport, aligned with mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who has voiced opposition to capitalism at events. Last year, he sold his cryptocurrency holdings in Ethereum and invested up to $250,000 in the “US Vegan Climate ETF.”

Other noteworthy disclosures include:

  • Assembly member Farah Sofrant Forest, 36, is balancing her role in Brooklyn with a secondary job as a registered nurse, earning an additional $50,000. Her disclosure indicates she worked at Jacobbi Medical Center in the Bronx last year.
