Man Arrested for Allegedly Distributing Riot Gear at Protests
A federal prosecutor has announced the arrest of a man involved in a conspiracy related to civil disturbances. The suspect, arrested in connection with a Los Angeles protest, was seen in a viral video distributing riot gear to protesters.
Protests against immigration enforcement escalated into violence and vandalism over a few days starting Friday. A widely shared video depicted a man handing out facial shields from a truck to a protester, raising questions about the organization behind such acts.
Many have pointed to this video as potential evidence of a coordinated effort, possibly funded by external groups. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli revealed on Thursday that Alejandro Theodoro Orellana was apprehended by the FBI at his home.
“We are focused on identifying and arresting those who are involved in organizing, supporting, or funding these riots,” Essayli stated, emphasizing the well-organized nature of the protests.
Essayli also shared footage showing a man distributing masks from a black pickup truck during the protests.
Some neighbors claimed they were unfamiliar with Orellana engaging in any criminal activities. One individual mentioned to KTLA-TV, “There’s nothing at all here. No one has heard anything bad about him.”
In response to the unrest, the Trump administration ordered military personnel to provide security for officials involved in immigration enforcement operations. Meanwhile, Democratic leaders have accused President Trump of taking a militaristic approach, with California Governor Gavin Newsom attempting to challenge the military presence but facing a judicial setback.
