Man Removed from MLS Game for Wearing MAGA Hat

A man faced charges during a Major League Soccer game in St. Louis, Missouri, for allegedly wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat.

Footage shared on social media shows a man identified as Michael Weitzel being asked to leave Enagaiser Park. He mentioned that it was due to his “Donald Trump hat.”

“I’m Michael Weitzel, and I was asked to leave for wearing Donald Trump’s hat,” he said in the video as security personnel escorted him out.

Security guards claimed that attendees should remain apolitical, stating, “They don’t want any political message.”

When Weitzel pointed out others in the stands waving flags, security responded that those were “pre-approved.”

Energy Park rules specify that political flags are banned, but there’s no mention of hats.

Security insisted they were enforcing rules uniformly, yet Weitzel felt he was unjustly “removed from the property.” As he reached the Concourse area, he remarked, “Trump is not welcome at the St. Louis City SC Club.” Security indicated he could return if he took off his hat, but he replied, “We’re way beyond that point.”

“It’s not his fault. He’s just following the rules,” he said, referring to one of the security guards. “So, this is what happens when you wear a Donald Trump hat at a St. Louis City SC game.”

Restrictions on political slogans at sporting events stirred debate during the Trump administration. Ahead of the 2024 presidential election, numerous NFL fans have reported being removed from stadiums for sporting “Make America Great Again” merchandise.
