Man Reportedly Harassed the Family of the Deceased United Healthcare CEO, Claimed Their Children Should Be Killed

Charges Filed in Cyberstalking Case Linked to Murdered CEO

Authorities have charged 40-year-old Shane Daly from Galway, New York, with cyberstalking involving harassing communications directed at the family of Brian Thompson, the slain CEO of UnitedHealthCare, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.

Between December 4 and December 7, Daly allegedly contacted Thompson’s family, using a work phone shortly after the murder. A press release detailed that he left threatening voicemail messages, expressing a twisted sense of satisfaction over Thompson’s death. It was reported that Daly suggested that Thompson’s family and children would meet the same fate.

U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III commented on the charges, stating, “Brian Thompson was shot in midtown Manhattan. Daly reveled in this tragedy and did all he could to increase the pain of the Thompson family. My office will ensure that he faces accountability for this malicious act.”

Daly could face up to five years in prison and fines of $250,000 if found guilty. He might also be subject to supervised release for up to three years after serving his sentence.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is actively investigating the case. Christopher G. Rye, Assistant Director of the FBI’s New York Office, remarked that the numerous calls and messages following Thompson’s murder were “ruthless” and constituted severe harassment.

Luigi Mangion is believed to be the individual who shot Thompson in Manhattan on December 4. Surveillance footage shows a masked person shooting the CEO at the UnitedHealth Group Investor Conference. Mangion was apprehended in Pennsylvania five days later.
