In Tennessee, a trailer full of Bibles was reportedly set on fire near a church on Easter Sunday, March 31st.
According to ABC affiliate station 8 newsMount Juliet police and firefighters arrived around 6 a.m. outside Global Vision Bible Church, led by Pastor Greg Locke, in response to the fire.
After the fire was extinguished, Wilson County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) deputies discovered that the trailer had originally been lowered into the middle of the intersection and set on fire.
Rock, who lives nearby, shared a photo of the trailer. Social media expressed shock over the incident.
“A trailer loaded with approximately 200 Bibles was set on fire, blocking the entrance from Old Lebanon Dirt Road and Chandler Radford Road. They broke into the main part of our parking lot. Please,” Rock told the outlet.
“We’ve had people do things to our buildings,” he continued. “We have to be safe because we’ve been vandalized many times, but 200 Bibles were never burned. That’s a pretty anti-church statement.”
Rock pointed out on social media that church security caught a man setting the trailer on fire after unloading it at an intersection and blocking the road to the church.
“There was a woman who drove all night to come to our church. She was in the parking lot and we were able to get the police here right away, but that’s where I came back from church. It was quite a sight when I woke up that first morning in “Israel,” he wrote.
The pastor insisted it was important for the congregation to move on from the incident.
“What people think will stop us over and over again actually just encourages us, in some weird way, to know that we’re doing the right thing.” Rock said.
WCSO said specific details about the incident were not immediately released to “maintain the integrity of the investigation.” At the same time, lawmakers assured the public that “the safety and security of our residents remains our top priority.”
