A man out for a walk with his dog over Labor Day weekend stumbled upon wreckage from a plane crash that occurred in January in Washington, DC.
Andrew Guevara shared with Fox 5 DC that while walking the Mount Vernon Trail in Alexandria, he noticed some unusual objects floating in the water.
“At first, it looked a bit strange, but there’s always so much litter in the river,” he recounted, speaking to local news outlets. “But there was something different about this. It had what looked like a lever and resembled a tray table you’d find on an airplane.”
As reported by Fox 5, local police were dispatched to the scene, but it turns out that the National Transportation Safety Board has jurisdiction over the items and is keeping them for evaluation until they can be linked to the accident from DCA.
Guevara mentioned, “It looked like a seat on a plane,” hinting at the somber reality of what he found.
Earlier this year, a tragic incident unfolded when a commercial aircraft collided with a US Army Black Hawk helicopter, resulting in the deaths of 67 people. This accident occurred after air traffic controllers failed to alert commercial planes about the approaching helicopter just before the crash on January 29.
