Disruptive Intruder on NBC’s “Today” Show

A man reportedly invaded the set of NBC’s “Today” show, demanding to know where long-time anchor Al Roker was, before directing racial slurs at host Craig Melvin, as detailed in a Manhattan court hearing.

“Where’s Roker?” Andrew Truelove, 41, allegedly shouted, just before using a derogatory term against Melvin, according to prosecutors and law enforcement.

Truelove, who has had multiple arrests in the past year, is accused of skipping past security and wandering into an unauthorized section close to 30 Rock’s Studio 1A around 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The judge, Jeffrey Gershuney, set bail at $10,000 and issued an order protecting Melvin from Truelove.

According to Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Millicent Kastenbaum, Truelove followed staff members using ID badges through restricted areas at the lobby.

He later reached the bottom of the stairs in an employee-only zone, where he confronted Melvin, based on statements from prosecutors and officials.

Truelove called out Melvin’s name and insisted on knowing Roker’s location, taking several steps toward Melvin while hurling racial insults, as indicated in the criminal complaint and reports.

When questioned by Melvin about his intentions, Truelove allegedly said, “I’ve always wanted to call black celebrities the N-word.”

On Thursday, he was charged with third-degree robbery as a hate crime and third-degree menacing as a hate crime.

As of Friday morning, Truelove was being held at Rikers Island, according to court documents.

If found guilty, he could face up to 15 years in prison and is expected back in court on July 22.
