Austin Tucker Martin, a 21-year-old from Cameron, North Carolina, was shot and killed by Secret Service agents and local police at Mar-a-Lago. He had been missing since Saturday when he was spotted trespassing on the secure grounds armed with a shotgun and a gas canister.
During the confrontation, Austin reportedly followed orders by dropping the gas can but then raised his shotgun, prompting authorities to act. Palm Beach County Sheriff Rick Bradshaw remarked that Austin posed an immediate threat.
Tragically, Austin was not only dealing with this situation; he also lost his sister, Caitlin Renya Martin, in a head-on car accident just a few months prior in August 2023. She too was 21 when she died.
Caitlin was struck by a pickup truck that was reportedly driving without headlights while she crossed near her parents’ home. The accident was severe; her vehicle hit a guardrail and went over a fence. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries, but Caitlin succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
The family reflected on Caitlin’s personality in a heartfelt letter, describing her as kind, adventurous, and with a unique perspective on life. She had a love for animals and even recently tried skateboarding, resulting in a broken wrist. Her family expressed how loved she was by those around her, highlighting the short but impactful time they had with her.
Now, Jacob Cade Martin, also a brother, is left as the sole surviving child in the family and is currently an Army candidate.
After Austin went missing, his mother, Melissa Martin, reached out on social media, hoping to find him. She mentioned that he might have been driving a silver 2013 Volkswagen Tiguan. Following the incident, authorities discovered a box of shotguns in the car he had been using.
Austin had a criminal history with at least one prior arrest, though the specifics aren’t fully known yet.
At the time of the incident, Donald Trump was not present; he was attending the Governor’s Dinner in Washington, D.C. Nearby residents in South Florida have been asked to review their security footage for any potential sightings of Austin.
This serious incident comes after a previous threatening episode against Trump at his West Palm Beach club, where an individual was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month for attempting an assassination during a golf game.
