Mark Halperin Anticipates US Will Detain Putin At Trump Meeting

Predictions Surround Alaska Summit

During a recent “morning meeting,” journalist Mark Halperin suggested that the upcoming summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin might be a strategy to apprehend Putin as a war criminal.

Trump is expected to meet with Putin soon. Notably, Putin is under a 2023 arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court (ICC) relating to allegations of child trafficking from occupied territories in Ukraine to Russia. Halperin, alongside co-hosts Sean Spicer and Dan Turretine, expressed skepticism about the U.S. successfully arresting Putin, though Halperin disagreed.

“I think they’re planning to arrest him. It seems like a setup to lure him to the U.S. for that,” Halperin remarked. He added, “He’s a war criminal.” According to the ICC, the alleged war crimes occurred on or after February 24, 2022, coinciding with the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Trump has repeatedly advocated for peace between Ukraine and Russia, vowing to end the conflict during his 2024 presidential campaign. Reports suggest that Putin believes a ceasefire could be negotiated if Ukraine relinquishes significant territories in its eastern regions.

Trump has communicated to European leaders that the objective of the summit is to achieve a ceasefire, rather than to discuss territorial adjustments. There were earlier suggestions that a “territorial exchange” might be on the table.

With the war having reportedly claimed hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides, the stakes are incredibly high. “High Stakes!!” Trump posted on True Social, underscoring the tension surrounding the events.
