Martel at the Founders’ Roundtable: If China Comes Out on Top in the AI Competition, They Will Spread Oppressive Technology Globally

China’s AI Dominance and Its Global Impact

During a recent discussion at the Breitbart Founders Roundtable, Francis Martel emphasized that if China emerges victorious in the artificial intelligence race, it would lead to a global spread of its oppressive technologies.

This roundtable, focused on “The Invisible War – AI, China, and the Battle for Global Domination,” was moderated by Alex Marlowe, the Editor-in-Chief of Breitbart News. It featured insights from various experts, including senior contributor Peter Schweitzer and AI specialist Wynton Hall.

This event was part of a series for members of the Breitbart Fight Club, providing a platform for subscribers to connect with experts, politicians, and government officials, and to pose questions. The next opportunity for participation is available for those interested.

Martel argued that China’s triumph in AI would not only affect its own governance but potentially dictate how repressive technologies are utilized globally. He remarked, “What would happen if China won? Inside China, it would be totalitarian, with AI making judgments and executing dissidents. But it extends beyond China. For instance, older technologies like surveillance cameras and Huawei’s facial recognition are evident in places like Venezuela.” He pointed out the dire conditions faced by people, highlighting that during a difficult period from 2017 to 2021, many were resorting to extreme measures just to survive.

He continued, saying, “There’s a global demand for this oppressive technology, and China has been willing to share it. If those in power believe they deserve to win at all costs, it raises concerns about how this technology gets spread worldwide. Even if someone were privileged enough to escape the U.S., the implications linger.”

Previous roundtables have included notable figures like EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the event, with one member commenting, “Great session! I’m British and I think Breitbart is important to world politics.”
