Strange Discovery Following Maryland Assault Arrest

In a rather bizarre turn of events, authorities arrested a Maryland homeowner on suspicion of threatening a tenant at gunpoint. The incident grew even stranger when an alligator, caiman, snake, emu, and six handguns were discovered on the property.

Sir Leander Evans Gamble, 57, from Waldorf, was taken into custody on July 3 after police responded to a report of an assault involving a firearm at his home on Penjack Place, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators revealed that Gamble had confronted three renters occupying a trailer on his property, allegedly assaulting them. Afterward, they found a handgun inside the residence. Reports indicate that Gamble pointed the weapon at one of the victims, threatening harm before police intervened.

The victims were identified as a woman, her 28-year-old son, and her son’s girlfriend, who was eight months pregnant. The woman expressed to local media that she felt traumatized by the incident and was facing financial difficulties as a result.

Authorities executed a search warrant at Gamble’s home, leading to the confiscation of six handguns.

During this investigation, officers from Charles County Animal Control arrived at the scene and made some alarming discoveries. They found several abandoned animals, including those alligators, caimans, snakes, emus, and various other pets like dogs, cats, and pigs.

Jennifer L. Harris, a spokesperson for Charles County Government, indicated in a statement that the environment where these animals were kept did not meet Maryland’s animal cruelty standards. All the animals have been removed from Gamble’s property, and the animal welfare investigation is ongoing.

Reports mention that the renters accused Gamble of neglect, claiming he failed to provide air conditioning in the trailer, which reportedly led to the death of a dog named Carter. However, the cause of death has yet to be confirmed by animal control.

Gamble has been charged with aggravated assault, and authorities have suggested that further charges might be forthcoming as the investigation develops. Currently, he is being held without bail at the Charles County Detention Center.
