Mat Barzal doesn’t understand the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce hate

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s conversation sneaks into the NHL All-Star Game.

And Islanders star Mathew Barzal represents it all.

The 26-year-old forward joins an army of sports figures who have defended Kelce and Swift’s high-profile relationship and questioned the continued hatred towards it by some soccer fans.

Barzal was asked about that during the NHL’s All-Star weekend media day.

“I’m not annoyed at all,” Barzal said when asked by a reporter about sports’ big couples. “I really don’t understand the whole thing. People said it was annoying. I kind of like it.”

Swift and Kelce have been at the center of the football world ever since they first started dating in September, making their first appearance cheering on the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium later that month.

Since then, controversy has erupted over some “fathers, Brad and Chad” who were outraged by the constant coverage of Swift’s presence at NFL broadcast games.

But don’t count Barzal among them, as he has professed admiration for the pop sensation and one of the NFL’s best tight ends.

“I like Taylor and Travis Kelce. Yeah, he’s outspoken and stuff, but his play speaks for itself,” the Isles All-Star said. “He’s a gamer and he has to respect that. Yeah, I like that.”

Kelce and the Chiefs are making their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the past five years and will be the first team since the Patriots 19 years ago to win back-to-back championships.

While some fans have expressed dissatisfaction with Swift’s stronghold on the soccer world, many have come to the pop icon’s defense.

Barzal will be making his third NHL All-Star appearance after being drafted 16th overall by the Islanders in 2015.
