Mayorkas makes alarming admission about migrant release rate in private meeting with Border Patrol: Report

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas reportedly acknowledged Monday that immigration authorities are releasing more than 85% of immigrants in their custody.

Mayorkas met privately with Border Patrol agents in Eagle Pass, Texas, where he was asked about his comments. he recently spoke on Fox News. In an interview last week, Fox News anchor Bret Baier asked Mayorkas about the number of immigrants released into the United States each day, citing sources as saying about 70% of all immigrants in custody. did.

Mayorkas dodged the question and said, “I'm not surprised at all. I know the data.”

But on Monday, the secretary gave a more direct answer, according to multiple Border Patrol officials who attended the meeting. Fox News' Bill Melgin reported that Mayorkas told Border Patrol agents that the current release rate is “over 85%.”

Given that there are over 240,000 immigrants, detained every month In fiscal year 2024, that means approximately 200,000 or more immigrants will be released into the general U.S. population each month. They are released conditionally. Alternatives to detention. But the immigration court system is so backed up that it could take years. 7 or 8 — before most of them see their day in court.

DHS did not deny Mayorkas entry, but issued a statement boasting of his deportation by the Biden administration.

statement Said:

After Title 42 ended in May, by the end of the fiscal year, DHS expelled or returned more noncitizens without grounds to remain in the United States than in any other five months in the past decade. In fact, the vast majority of migrants encountered at the Southwest border throughout this administration have been removed, deported, or deported. We encourage non-citizens to use legal channels, impose consequences on non-citizens, and do all we can to reduce irregular immigration in a broken system.

However, authorities were unable to provide evidence of that claim.

Additionally, it is important to note the language used in this statement: “noncitizens with no basis for their presence in the United States.” This likely does not include the millions of immigrants who are processed and released into the United States while awaiting adjudication on their asylum claims in the backlogged immigration court system.
