Former First Lady Michelle Obama appeared to voice her support for transgender children at the Democratic National Convention, using her speech to accuse former President Donald Trump of “demonizing” kids “for who they are.”
Obama, who has made it her mission to promote healthy lifestyles for children during her husband’s presidency, said in her keynote address Tuesday night that it would be “unpresidential” to speak out against early childhood gender reassignment.
After calling President Trump “misogynistic” and “racist,” the former first lady began listing the things that “don’t make anyone’s life better.”
“…destroying our health care system and taking away our freedom to control our bodies, our freedom to become mothers, as I did, through IVF, is not going to improve the health outcomes for our wives, our mothers and our daughters,” Obama told the audience.
“Closing the Ministry of Education and banning books does nothing to prepare children for their futures. Demonizing children for being who they are and loving who they love does not make anyone’s life better,” she argued.
While she avoided explicitly mentioning the transition process, it was clear to many that Obama was referring to gender and sexuality.
