Migrant Encounters on Southwest Border Drop 96 Percent from Last Year

Migrant concerns along the border with Mexico in the southwestern US, fell nearly 96% last week compared to the average anxiety in February 2024. The base border sector has dropped nearly 89% from last year.

Texas DPS spokesman Chris Olivares posted a series of daily summaries showing uncertainty for each of the five Texas-based border departments over the seven days that ended February 9th. The Texas-New Mexico border led five sectors of unrest for 612 immigrants who illegally crossed the border from Mexico.

The White House posted a video to X showing the success of the Trump administration in its first few weeks. Listed in the video is an 89% reduction in the number of illegal alien encounters. It is not clear whether it is a southern border or includes a northern border.

Anxieties in the Rio Grande Valley sector came in second, with 392 immigrants per week feeling uneasy. This was followed by Del Rio, Laredo and the Big Bend sector, with concerns of 236, 169 and 52 respectively.

Concerns of 1,461 immigrants along the Texas-based border sector that week fell 89% from the average arrest rate last year. The 2,615 people arrested along the entire Mexico-southwest border fell to 374, down 96%.

For comparison, Breitbart obtained arrest counts from the February 2024 CBP Nationwide Encounters report, averaging 5,023 concerns per day along the Southwest Border Division. Of these, five Texas-based sectors saw 1,909 per day.

Much of the decline could be attributed to aggressive enforcement actions by the Trump administration and newly announced enforcement actions by Mexico.
