Mike Vrabel discusses "challenging talks" regarding the Dianna Russini incident

Vrabel Talks Family Conversations After Photo With Reporter

Mike Vrabel has opened up about the “difficult conversations” he’s had with his family and the Patriots organization following a photo of him embracing reporter Deanna Russini at a resort in Arizona.

Both Vrabel and Russini, who are married to other individuals, have denied any inappropriate relationship after Page Six featured a photograph of the two of them holding hands and hugging at the Ambiente Resort in Sedona. Shortly after this incident, Russini resigned from her position at The Athletic, while insisting she hadn’t done anything wrong.

On Tuesday, Vrabel addressed the situation publicly for the first time, referring to it as a “personal and private matter.”

“I’ve had difficult conversations with people I care about,” he shared. “My family, organization, coaches, and players have been very supportive and productive.”

He emphasized that success stems from making the right decisions, starting with himself. “We never want our actions to negatively impact the team, and we certainly don’t want to be a distraction,” he added.

Vrabel also mentioned that with the NFL Draft approaching, the coaches and players had “candid” discussions recently as they prepare for what’s next.

“I don’t want to be undrafted either,” he admitted. “This is a significant moment for us and our organization. Welcoming new players is an exciting journey.”

Wrapping up his thoughts, he said, “I care deeply about this football team… my family, this organization, and the fans push me to be my best.”

After the photo surfaced, Russini commented to Page Six, “The image doesn’t depict a group of people just hanging out. Much like many NFL journalists, I interact with sources outside of stadiums and other venues.”

Vrabel echoed her perspective, stating, “These photos show a completely innocent interaction; any other interpretation is laughable and not worth a response.”

Despite reports, three sources indicated that no one was seen accompanying the coaches or reporters at that moment.

Russini initially garnered strong public backing from Stephen Ginsburg, editor-in-chief of The Athletic. However, it was later revealed that she was under an internal investigation prior to her resignation last Tuesday.

In her resignation letter, she wrote, “Rather than let this situation continue, I have chosen to step aside before my contract ends on June 30. I do this not because I accept the narrative surrounding this episode, but because I refuse to let it define me or my career.”

The Patriots, now with the No. 31 overall pick after their Super Bowl appearance, will be selecting at the end of Thursday’s NFL Draft.
