More than 1 in 4 voters already cast ballots as key swing state smashes records

So far, more than one in four Georgia voters have cast a ballot in the 2024 presidential election.

The Peach State continues to shatter pre-Election Day turnout records and is expected to be a key factor in the White House race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

As of Tuesday afternoon, more than 1.8 million of Georgia's roughly 7.2 million eligible voters, or 25.2%, had cast absentee or early votes.

Gabriel Sterling, chief operating officer of the Georgia Secretary of State's Office, wrote that X “has reached another milestone.”

“As of 1:30 p.m., 25.2% of Georgia's eligible voters have cast a ballot, representing more than one in four eligible voters, with nine days remaining in the mandatory early voting period. That's an amazing number. I salute the efforts of our county and their voters. ”

Both Harris and Trump's campaigns have poured significant time and resources into Georgia, a state that President Biden won by less than 1 percentage point in 2020.

On the first day of early voting alone, Georgians cast more than 313,000 in-person votes. Sterling said this was 123% higher than the previous opening day record.

And Sunday's single-day voting total was nearly double the number seen on the first Sunday of early voting in 2022.

White voters make up the largest share of that total so far, followed by black voters. Even before Election Day, Georgia women slightly outnumbered men, 55.3% to 44.4%.
