New York Voters Favor New Governor Over Hochul
A recent Siena University poll indicates that a significant majority of New York voters would prefer to elect a new governor instead of re-electing the current governor, Kathy Hochul. Released on Tuesday, the poll showed that 55% of those surveyed expressed a desire for “someone else” to take the helm in 2026, while only 36% indicated they would re-elect Hochul.
The survey revealed that about half of the voters in this typically Democratic state approved of Hochul’s leadership, but 46% disapproved. Additionally, just 44% of voters who participated viewed her positively, with a slightly higher percentage, 46%, expressing a negative view of her performance.
Interestingly, the poll noted that Republican sentiments toward Hochul have turned increasingly negative, rising from 68% disapproval last month to 82% now. Among independents, disapproval also surged from 55% to 64%. Even among Democrats, only 51% seemed inclined to support her re-election.
Kathy Hochul has held the governor’s position since 2021 and has confirmed her intention to run for re-election in the upcoming 2026 race.
As of now, Hochul’s office has not commented on the poll results.
