Elderly Woman Rescued from Burning Car Near New York City
In a dramatic rescue in Chester, New York, two drivers assisted police in saving an elderly woman trapped in a burning car after a rollover accident. The incident occurred early Sunday morning, around 4 a.m.
Chester police received reports of the accident on Kings Highway and quickly scrambled to the scene. As they arrived, updates indicated that the occupants were still inside the burning vehicle. Officer Nicholas Contino was the first to respond and immediately handed a fire extinguisher to a passerby to help combat the flames while he worked to locate the driver.
Footage shared on social media highlights the urgency, showing one of the good Samaritans extinguishing the fire. Contino then broke through the glass sunroof of the car and was able to pull the driver to safety.
“Thanks to the quick actions of two drivers and paramedics from Empress EMS, the woman safely exited the vehicle before the fire spread further,” reported the Chester Police Department. The driver was identified as a 68-year-old from Warwick, New York.
She suffered third-degree burns and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she remains stable.
The police’s prompt response and teamwork are credited with significantly improving her chances of survival, leading authorities to express their appreciation for the collective effort that made a life-saving difference that morning.
