Mountain Lion Strolls into California Home

A startling video captured a mountain lion casually walking through the entrance of a home in California. Jeff Tenney was in his mother’s kitchen in La Verne, Los Angeles County, on Saturday afternoon when he found himself making eye contact with the unexpected visitor.

“I could almost feel its presence from the corner of my eye,” he shared. “We peeked around and locked eyes for a moment.”

The mountain lion sauntered in through the open front door of the suburban house, only to dash out the back after noticing the people inside.

“When it saw me, it quickly bolted. I heard this loud noise—a boom! It leaped onto the pool and against the fence,” Tenney recalled.

Interestingly, he wasn’t frightened at all; his thoughts were more about his dog, who was in the front yard. “I was really just worrying about the dog at that point,” he added.

Tenney’s 13-year-old dog, Bandit, didn’t even stir during the unexpected encounter. “He slept soundly through the whole thing,” Tenney said, mentioning he had left the door open for his pet to roam.

“Bandit was just dozing off on the grass. When I walked back out, it looked like he had caught a scent, but he hadn’t encountered a mountain lion before,” he explained.

Tenney noted that the two didn’t see each other directly until they got quite close. The wild animal’s only casualty was a pool float, which it jumped into as it made its escape through the backyard.

While La Verne isn’t typically known for mountain lion sightings, Tenney expressed concern, especially given that there was a children’s party happening nearby at the time. “I have some ring camera footage that I think could help alert the community. There were kids everywhere that day, so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware,” he said.
