MSNBC host Rachel Madow told The Rachel Madow Show on Monday that her network made a “bad mistake” firing host Joy Reid.
Maddow said: She's completely leaving the network, but it's very, very, very difficult. I am 51 years old. I have been employed usefully since I was 12 years old and have worked in many different types of jobs. If I told you, I wouldn't believe it. But in every job I had in every year of my life, there is no colleague who I had more affection and respect than Joy Reed. I love everything about her. I learned a lot from her. I have so much more to learn from her. I don't want to lose her as a colleague here at MSNBC. Personally, I think it's a bad mistake for her to leave the door. It's not my phone, I understand it. But that's what I think. ”
She continued, “I tell you, and on two networks, with two non-white hosts at Primetime, the non-white hosts at Primetime, as well as Katie fans at the weekend. It's also uneasy to make sure they're losing the show to. And it feels worse than bad, no matter who replaces them. It feels unprotectable. And I I won't defend that.”
She added: From your side of the TV screen, you will see the change mainly in terms of who is in the anchor chair, and in fact, everyone who is going to be in the anchor chair from here is a great colleague and they do It's perfect for doing it. And you will not be disappointed with who is in our air and what you see. But one thing you don't necessarily see is that the people who are broadcasting our show, they're really on the ringer. ”
Maddow concluded: They are invited to reapply for a new job. Perhaps it's not the right way to treat people, so when it comes to programming changes, it's never happened on this scale like this. And we generally don't do things like this because it's inefficient, it's not necessary and kind of bottoms out of whether people feel this is a good place to work or not. ”
