Elon Musk’s Political Shift: Focus on Support for JD Vance

After announcing plans to start a new political party, Elon Musk is reportedly reconsidering and plans to concentrate on his business ventures instead. There are whispers that he may endorse Vice President JD Vance in the upcoming 2028 presidential race, as noted in a recent Wall Street Journal article.

Previously, Musk introduced the “America Party” in July following a public spat with former President Donald Trump concerning a contentious spending bill. He criticized the “One, Big Beautiful Bill,” expressing concern about the lack of spending cuts and labeling it a “massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill.”

Initially, Musk’s vision for the “America Party” aimed to secure “2 or 3 Senate Seats and 8 to 10 House districts” to influence crucial Congressional votes. He had even promised to support primary challengers to any Republicans who backed Trump’s bill.

However, it appears Musk is now shifting focus. He seems to be placing a higher priority on nurturing his relationship with Vance, who may have an influential role in the Republican Party following Trump’s presidency. The report highlighted that Musk recognizes that attempting to launch a new political party could jeopardize his rapport with Vance.

In an effort to ease the tension between Trump and Musk, Vance reached out, suggesting that Elon should “come back into the fold.”

“My argument to Elon is like, you’re not going to be on the left … even if you wanted to be — and he doesn’t — they’re not going to have you back, that ship has sailed,” Vance remarked. He continued, expressing concern that it would be a mistake for Musk to distance himself from the former president.

Vance also expressed hope that by the midterms, the dynamics might normalize.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Musk is contemplating providing financial support for Vance if he enters the presidential race in 2028. Musk previously invested nearly $300 million to assist Trump and Republican candidates in the 2024 elections, which ultimately led to Trump’s second term.

Though Musk seems to be leaning towards supporting Vance, he has not completely abandoned the idea of forming a new political party. He appears to be waiting to see how the next midterm elections unfold before making any final decisions.
