Rep. Nancy Mace Targets D.C. DEI Office
Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC) has proposed the DC No DEI Act, aiming to dismantle the D.C. government’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) office. This move, she argues, is an effort to refocus the city on its essential functions and could potentially waste taxpayer dollars in ideological politics.
Mace has voiced strong criticisms, stating, “For years, the left has used the government in DC as an ideological playground.” She contends that essential city services are at risk while funds are being diverted to promote division based on race and gender. Mace believes her legislation could put an end to these practices and align with President Trump’s agenda of making D.C. safer.
Back in August, Trump had asserted his authority over D.C. police, citing widespread issues in the nation’s capital. During this time, crime rates reportedly dropped due to the presence of National Guard patrols, allowing visitors and residents to feel safer.
Although his 30-day control over the police has ended, security measures remain in effect. Mace’s legislation aims to address what she sees as problematic political maneuverings within D.C. governance, redirecting focus to pressing issues like crime and public safety.
According to Mace’s office, there’s insufficient transparency about the funding dedicated to DEI initiatives. Currently, 16 taxpayer-funded offices related to DEI exist in the D.C. government. These include the Racial Equity Committee and the Bureau of LGBTQ Issues, which Mace insists are shielded from accountability.
The proposed legislation would utilize Congress’s authority to exert oversight over D.C., terminating the DEI programs, and abolishing multiple related entities.
Key elements of the no DEI Act encompass:
- Banning DEI practices: Eliminate and refund the D.C. government’s DEI programs.
- Ending mandatory indoctrination: Dismantling compulsory DEI and racial equity trainings across D.C. institutions.
- Removing ideological language: Exclude terms such as “LGBTQIA+ Birthing People” from the legal framework.
- Abolishing bureaucratic offices: Disband 16 taxpayer-funded committees, including those focused on racial equity and LGBTQ issues.
- Preventing re-emergence: Stop these offices from being revived through different names or forms.
- Establishing real enforcement: Granting citizens the right to sue the D.C. government for violations.
Mace has also been vocal against issues surrounding gender policies, notably attempting to prevent Rep. Sarah McBride (D-DE) from using women’s facilities at the Capitol. Her ongoing efforts highlight concerns about DEI initiatives and their perceived detrimental impact.
This recent bill fits into Mace’s broader mission to curb divisive political agendas funded by taxpayer money. Furthermore, she advocates for a merit-based system in military and service academy admissions, asserting these decisions should not be influenced by race or ethnicity. She also supports educational reforms that focus on traditional curricula rather than politically driven narratives.
