TikTok user @Mr. Denton She was stunned to see unidentified uniformed postal workers exiting and entering a mail van and dumping boxes in Nashville’s Antioch neighborhood Saturday morning.
“This can’t be happening,” she said, confused. “He’s throwing mail, federal mail, in the trash, and he’s looking around while he’s doing it! This has to be some kind of crime.”
The postal worker was seen throwing out two boxes of what appeared to be mail, then sifting through the trash can and covering it with other trash already inside.
He then returns to the van and grabs another box.
“People’s mail, checks, bills,” said the still-utterly shocked TikTok user. He’d already emptied the front two and now he’s going for the one in the back.”
“Don’t tell me this is legal. Don’t tell me this is what everyone is doing to get rid of their mail.”
She also noted that the suspicious mailman “kept looking around” to make sure no one was watching as the mailman tossed another box into the trash before the TikTok ended.
The video showed USPS workers disposing of five boxes that likely contained mail.
The TikTok video quickly became a hot topic online, garnering more than 50,000 views since it was posted on Saturday and prompting some interesting comments from upset users.
“They should also contact the company that owns the bin before the truck comes to collect it. He must have come to dump the garbage from a different route,” one user commented.
“That’s why you need to get notification emails from the USPS letting you know all the mail that should be in your mailbox that day,” suggested another user.
“They should have called the postal police. That kind of thing happens, they should have called their local authorities. Just saying,” another user commented.
Since the video was posted over the weekend, the USPS Office of Inspector General – Mid-Atlantic Regional Field Office (MAAFO) Confirmed The local inspector general’s office told WSMV4 they are aware of the matter and are investigating.
It also reported that the employees making the headlines at TikTok have been placed on “off-duty status.”
“The local OIG office is aware of the video posted to social media this weekend and is investigating the matter,” MAAFO said.
“Postal staff allegedly involved have been taken off duty.”
