A father is mourning after his daughter, an American woman serving on Israeli border patrol, was killed. During this painful time, he faced verbal abuse from a neighbor who taunted him with anti-Semitic remarks about his daughter’s death.
Sergeant Elish Valorz Eidalvin, just 20 years old, was fatally stabbed by a teenage assailant while on duty in Jerusalem’s old town in November 2023.
Rose had moved to Israel in August 2021 as a “lone soldier,” long before the Israeli-Hamas war officially began, and had been living away from her family since starting her army service in March 2022.
Her father, David Rubin, feels there’s been no peace for him since losing Rose.
Back in Atlanta, where Rose lived with her family prior to relocating, David has had ongoing issues with a hostile neighbor who insulted him and referred to him in derogatory terms.
This tension escalated when David put up a sign honoring Rose, which drew more hostility from his neighbor.
David mentioned that he had no issue with his neighbors displaying their sentiments, as they had the right to do so.
However, when a woman yelled anti-Semitic comments and claimed, “Your daughter deserves to die,” David could no longer ignore the abuse.
He approached his neighbors, who were recording the situation with their phones.
One neighbor, Anna Bouyzk, told David that his daughter’s death was his responsibility. She proceeded to make inflammatory remarks, suggesting that Rose was in a dangerous position by serving in the military.
Bouyzk, along with her husband, co-founded a genetics company and argued that Rose’s death was justified due to her role in the military.
In conversations, Bouyzk insisted that her comments weren’t rooted in hatred, citing her Jewish friends as evidence, though David found her behavior utterly appalling.
She later stated that she felt no remorse for her words, reiterating harsh phrases she directed at David during their confrontation.
David, feeling distressed and contemplating his next steps, is considering reporting the harassment to the local authorities.
